Columbus, Georgia excels in many areas, not the least of which is offering a wide range of great places to eat. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Columbus covers all the bases and all the taste preferences of locals and visitors. Here are photos and "temptations" from several I had a chance to try.
My Boulange & Tower Pizza
My Boulange & Tower Pizza is all-in for French cuisine and atmosphere. You can't miss the Eiffel Tower in front or the macarons in the display case. Coffees, quiches, pizzas, pastries, and more are highly recommended here. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Quiche Lorraine I had was excellent.
Millhouse Kitchen & Bar
Millhouse Kitchen & Bar is particularly convenient for those who stay at City Mills Hotel, but it is open for anyone. Located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in a former grist mill, the brand-new restaurant opened in December 2022. Many relics of the past are incorporated into the decor, but it also has a fresh clean vibe. It is open for an elegant dinner Tuesday through Saturday. I recommend the Shrimp & Grits and the over-the-top banana pudding.
Plucked Up Chicken & Biscuits
Quirky, chicken-themed decor rules inside Plucked Up Chicken & Biscuits, a great place to start your day with a delicious breakfast. The biscuits are large and fluffy, and the chicken is tender and flavorful. Add an egg or two and some grits, and you're all set. A fun place that is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Minnie's Uptown Restaurant
Get in the cafeteria line at Minnie's Uptown Restaurant for meats, veggies, and desserts with Southern, down-home flavor. Everything is made from scratch, including the hoe cakes. You will NOT leave hungry. This is strictly a lunch place and is open Sunday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Loft
This lively uptown restaurant serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday and offers live entertainment every week Thursday to Saturday. Salads, sandwiches, wraps, and full entrees are delicious, but by all means, save room for dessert. Cheesecake at The Loft is "worth writing home about." It's extraordinary. Ask me how I know. :)
Bodega 1205
Another great choice for breakfast, this one with a decidedly Latin flair, is Bodega 1205 on 12th Street in Uptown Columbus. Some of the menu options are in Spanish, but the English explanation is clear. Criollo, Arepas, Empanadas, Tortilla Espanola, and Ropa Vieja are just a few. Many items are totally in English. The Parfait is beautiful, and the Bodega Fries are similar to large potato chips. The service is friendly. I think you'll enjoy it.
Other places that I want to try during a future visit include Animal Farm, Eighteen85 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen, and Saltcellar.
